A 31 year-old Regina male is facing a number of theft related charges after a stolen vehicle was located and recovered by police.
On Sunday, March 15, 2020, members of the Regina Police Service Stolen Auto Unit were alerted to an alleged stolen vehicle travelling northbound on Elphinstone Street. As the vehicle entered the area of Regina Avenue and Montague Street, police initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle accelerated and evaded police.
Nearby, a tire deflation device (spike belt) was deployed on the vehicle. The male driver abandoned the vehicle in the 1300 block of Connaught Street and fled on foot. Moments later, the suspect male was apprehended and arrested by police in the 4600 block of 7th Avenue. The vehicle was confirmed to be stolen during an alleged break and enter, and a stolen license plate was also located inside the vehicle.
Police records confirm the suspect male was also involved in evading police in the same stolen vehicle, just days earlier. On Thursday, March 12, 2020, patrol officers attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle on McCarthy Boulevard. The same male suspect was confirmed to have been driving at that time. As a result:
