The Regina Police Service Drug Unit (RDU) completed an investigation into fentanyl trafficking within the City of Regina. As a result of the investigation, a CDSA search warrant was executed on Saturday, March 14, 2020, in the 900 block of 15th Avenue, five individuals were arrested in relation to the investigation. Tactical Support (SWAT Team) was used to assist in the entry of the residence.
The results of the search yielded a large volume of controlled substances, specifically fentanyl. Approximately 450 grams of fentanyl, $11,000.00 Canadian currency and a loaded .45 caliber handgun, which was stolen, were seized during the search.
As a result of the enforcement action 29 year-old Hanad FARAH, 33 year-old Mohamed HASSAN, 33 year-old Omar ISSAK, AB, 31 year-old Daineol JOHNSON, and 23 year-old Hassan SALAD, all of Edmonton, Alberta, were arrested and jointly charged with the following offences:
- Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (fentanyl) [5(2)CDSA];
- Possession of proceeds of crime (Canadian Currency) Over $5000 [355(a)CC];
- Unsafe storage of a firearm [86(2)CC];
- Possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace [88CC];
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm [91(1)CC];
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm with ammunition 95(1)(a)CC];
- Possession of a firearm obtained by crime 96(1)CC];
In addition, the following individuals were charged separately for the following offences:
Mohamud HASSAN:
- 3 X Possession of a firearm and ammunition contrary to a prohibition order [117.01(1)CC]; and
- Failing to comply with conditions of a release order [145(5)(a)CC].
Daineol JOHNSON:
- 2 X Possession of a firearm and ammunition contrary to a prohibition order [117.01(1)CC]; and
- 2 X Failing to comply with conditions of a release order [145(5)(a)CC].
Omar ISSAK:
- Possession of a firearm and ammunition contrary to a prohibition order [117.01(1)CC]; and
- Failing to comply with conditions of a release order [145(5)(a)CC].
All accused made their first court appearance on March 16, 2020.
