The Regina Police Service is currently investigating multiple frauds in which local businesses – vehicle accessory businesses and construction businesses – have been targeted for large amounts of money.
Information provided to police indicates suspects are requesting to make large purchases over the phone, by text message, or by email. The orders are typically for multiple items, totaling thousands of dollars. Upon placing the order, credit card information is given over the phone from the suspect to employees of the business. By the time the business is notified that the credit card and identification used to make the purchase was fraudulent, the items have already been picked up from the store.
As a result of an increase in these frauds, the Regina Police service is advising local businesses to remain diligent in their payment practices. We advise businesses to always request to see a physical credit card, as well as matching photo identification in person prior to a large sale.
Anyone who believes they have been a victim of a similar fraud to their business is asked to contact the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500.
