The Regina Police Service, working in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service, has concluded that a death which occurred in Regina in 2018, is a homicide case. Police have now charged an adult female in connection with this case. This investigation, into the death of a three year-old girl, began Tuesday, March 20, 2018. As the result of continued investigation, it is now considered a homicide case, bringing the total number of homicides, in 2018, to seven. The identity of the child was not released publicly by police in March 2018. Now, with the change to a homicide investigation, and with the consent of the family, the identity of the victim can be made public. She is three year old Zoey HANCOCK, of Regina.
At the start of the investigation, a 9-1-1 call was received around 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday March 20, 2018. It indicated a three-year old girl at a residence in the 100 block of Montreal Street N was found unresponsive. EMS was dispatched and administered emergency care to the child before transporting the girl to hospital. The child was pronounced deceased at hospital at 12:17 p.m. that day and police were called to the hospital, to commence the death investigation. Notification was made to family and Victim Services offered. The investigation continued with police and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service working together on the case until the present day. On February 12, 2020, police arrested and charged a 33 year-old Regina female in connection to the child’s death.
Thirty-three year-old Ashley Dawn LONGWORTH, of Regina, is charged with:
- Manslaughter [236(b) CC].
LONGWORTH will make her first court appearance on this charge in Provincial Court at 2:00 p.m. today, Wednesday, February 12, 2020.
