The Regina Police Service is advising the public of the discharge of a Conducted Energy Weapon, or CEW, commonly known as a taser, on Friday, January 31, 2019. This advisory is in keeping with the Regina Police Service’s commitment to notify the public each time a CEW is discharged against a person.
On Friday, January 31, police were dispatched to the 1400 block of Retallack St for a report of a domestic disturbance. When police arrived, they located an aggressive and violent adult male. The officers feared the possibility of death or grievous bodily harm so a CEW was deployed.
A 53 year-old male was taken into custody. No injuries were reported as the CEW did not deploy successfully.
This matter is still under investigation.
The use of the CEW has been documented as per policy and will be reviewed by a Use of Force Committee-a committee within the Service. All uses of force are also reported to the Saskatchewan Police Commission-an oversight body independent of the Regina Police Service.
