Two adult males are facing numerous theft charges after a complex investigation into recent thefts from heavy duty trucks. A third adult male is facing charges of Possession of Stolen Property over $5,000 and Trafficking in Stolen Property. The males were arrested and charged by members of the Regina Police Service Property Crimes Unit.
These recent investigations all involved the theft of components of the exhaust systems of heavy duty commercial trucks. The recent Regina thefts are as follows:
- 22, 2019 – 1100 block Albert Street – 3 vehicles affected;
- 1, 2019 – 200 block Solomon Drive – 3 vehicles affected;
- Between Dec. 6-8, 2019 – 600 Henderson Drive – 1 vehicle affected;
- 9, 2019 – 700 Dethridge Bay – 3 vehicles affected;
- 12, 2019 – 600 block Park Street – 1 vehicle affected;
- 20, 2019 – 200 block Solomon Bay – 1 vehicle affected;
- Between Dec. 22-27, 2019 – 400 Hoffer Bay – 1 vehicle affected;
- Between Dec. 24-27, 2019 – 1200 block 1st Avenue – 5 vehicles affected; and
- Between Dec. 20, 2019 – Jan. 3, 2020 – 1000 block Albert Street – 3 vehicles affected.
On January 4, 2020, after extensive investigation, members of the Regina Police Service Property Crimes Unit arrested two males, ages, 27 and 30, in the maintenance yard of a business located in the 1000 block of Albert Street. A third suspect: a 32 year-old male was arrested on January 8, 2020, and also charged in connection with these offences.
Thirty year-old Logan James THOMPSON and 27 year-old Adam Steven METZ, both of Regina, are jointly charged with:
- 7 X Theft over $5,000 [344(a) CC]; and
- 3 X Break, Enter and Commit Theft [348(1)(b) CC].
Both THOMPSON and METZ made their first court appearances on these charges in Provincial Court on January 6, 2020.
Thirty-two year-old Esmat MUMTAZ, of Regina, is charged with Possession of Stolen Property over $5,000 [355(a) CC] and Trafficking in Stolen Property [355.2 CC].
MUMTAZ will make his first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2020.
Between November 1st, 2019 and January 4, 2020 the Regina Police Service received numerous reports of thefts of exhaust system components. Although the individuals have only been charged with the above listed offences, the investigation is continuing into other similar offences.
