The Regina Police Service is taking a support role in a death investigation resulting from a house fire on December 31, 2019, in the 1500 block of Cameron Street. The death investigation is being led by the Saskatchewan Coroners’ Service, in conjunction with Regina Fire and Protective Services.
Background: Police were dispatched on Tuesday, December 31st, at approximately 9:32 a.m. to the 1500 block of Cameron Street to assist other emergency responders at a house fire. Regina Fire and Protective Services and EMS were also at the scene. An adult male was located in the residence; he was confirmed deceased. As part of the investigation, officers secured the immediate area and requested additional police resources, as well as the coroner. The deceased person was identified and notification made to his next of kin. His name will not be released by the Regina Police Service.
Investigation has, thus far, determined that police are not the appropriate lead agency. The investigation will continue, led by the Saskatchewan Coroners’ Service, in conjunction with Regina Fire and Protective Services, who will continue this investigation to fully understand the circumstances surrounding this death.
