A 12 year-old male youth is facing a charge of Arson as a result of a joint investigation, involving the Regina Police Service and Regina Fire and Protective Services, into a fire at a business in the 3900 block of Rochdale Boulevard, last night.
Police were dispatched at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 to a department store in the 3900 block of Rochdale Boulevard for a report of a fire at that location. Both Regina Fire and Protective Services and EMS were also on scene when police arrived. When it was established that there was nobody left inside the building and the fire was extinguished, the property was secured so no one could enter. Police and fire officials then began what would become a criminal investigation. The smoke and water damage to the merchandise in the store is described as significant. The investigation was assisted by management and security staff at the store, who made video available to police. Through investigation, a viable suspect was identified and then located by police. The suspect was arrested and charged this afternoon.
The 12 year-old accused male cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. He is facing a charge of Arson [433(a) CC]. The youth will make his first appearance on this charge in Youth Court at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, December 12, 2019.
