On Sunday, November 10, 2019 a Regina Police Service member discharged a CEW, commonly known as a Taser, in an arrest. This advisory is in keeping with the Regina Police Service’s commitment to notify the public each time a CEW is discharged against a person.
On November 10, 2019 at approximately 2:10 P.M. police were dispatched to a residence in the 800 block of McNiven Avenue for a male in distress. When police arrived, they located a male with a weapon. The officers feared the possibility of death or grievous bodily harm so a CEW was deployed. The male was taken into custody and transported to the hospital.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
The use of the CEW has been documented as per policy and will be reviewed by a Use of Force Committee-a committee within the Service. All uses of force are also reported to the Saskatchewan Police Commission-an oversight body independent of the Regina Police Service.
