Three people are facing drug and firearms-related charges following a Regina Police Service Drug Unit (RDU) investigation into illegal drug trafficking within the City of Regina. As a result of the investigation enforcement action was completed on Tuesday, June 18, 2019.
As a result of the investigation, three individuals were taken into custody in the 2000 block of Cameron Street. A vehicle search, incident to the arrest of the suspects, revealed a large quantity of methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl, MDMA, Canadian currency, a loaded .22 Caliber handgun, and a loaded 9mm handgun.
Further to the arrests, a CDSA search warrant was executed in the 900 block of 15th Avenue. As a result of this search additional methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl, MDMA, Canadian currency, loaded magazines for the firearms, and drug trafficking paraphernalia were seized.
The results of the searches yielded a large volume of controlled substances. Over 2 kilograms of methamphetamine, 191.81 grams of cocaine, 261.56 grams of fentanyl, MDMA, over $25,000.00 in Canadian currency and the two loaded firearms with ammunition were seized.
These individuals: 39 year-old Robert Tamotsu OKABE of Calgary; 33 year-old Kyle HUNTER of Nanton; and a 30 year-old female of White City, are all jointly charged with:
- Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (Methamphetamine) [5(2) CDSA];
- Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (Cocaine) [5(2) CDSA];
- Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (fentanyl) [5(2) CDSA];
- Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (MDMA)
- [5(2) CDSA];
- Possession of proceeds of crime (Canadian Currency) over $5000 [355(a) CC];
- 2 X Careless use of a firearm [86(1) CC];
- 2 X Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public [88 CC];
- 2 X Carrying a concealed weapon [90 CC];
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm [91(2) CC];
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm [92(1) CC];
- 2 X Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle [94(1) CC];
- Possession of a loaded restricted firearm [95(1) CC];
- Possession of a prohibited firearm [95(1) (A) CC]; and
- 2 X Possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon obtained by crime [96(1) CC].
In addition, OKABE was subject to a firearms prohibition and received additional charges of:
- 4 X Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order [117.01(1) CC].
HUNTER was the subject of two firearms prohibition and received additional charges of:
- 8 X Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order [117.01(1) CC].
All three accused persons made their first court appearances on these charges in Provincial Court on Wednesday, June 19, 2019.
