A 36 year-old Regina male is facing numerous firearms and other weapons charges following an investigation the night of Saturday, May 18, 2019.
On the evening of Saturday, May 18, 2019, at 8:53 p.m., officers were dispatched to a house in the 400 block of McIntyre Street for a report of what sounded like a child in distress. Police attended and were let into the residence by the occupant. The officers located four children, who were sleeping. It is likely the initial complaint came as a result of noise from the resident’s dog. Officers did a walk through the house in order to ensure that there was no one else inside who had been injured. In this process, the officers saw firearms in plain view in the house; one was loaded, and there were various types and quantities of ammunition nearby. Police located more firearms, parts of firearms, ammunition, body armour, knives and machetes, information on modifying firearms to fully automatic, and information on making explosives. The male was arrested and the weapons seized. Arrangements were made for the safety of the children. Further investigation led to charges against the male.
Thirty-six year-old James Augustus ALLEN, of Regina, is charged with:
- 3 X Possession of Firearms Knowing their Possession is Unauthorized [92(1) CC];
- 2 X Possession of a Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition [95(1) CC];
- 3 X Careless Use of Firearm [86(1) CC]; and
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized (magazine) [92(2) CC.
ALLEN made his first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 21, 2019.
