On Monday, March 4, 2019, a Regina high school student notified authorities about alarming messages she was receiving through social media. An anonymous messenger was requesting she send nude photos, and upon her denying the request, began extorting her by threatening to harm others at her school. Threats included school shooting and bomb threats.
Investigation into
this incident led to a 17 year-old male, who was arrested and charged.
A 17 year-old Regina male, who cannot be named in accordance with the
provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with:
- Extortion [CC 264.1(1)]; and
- Uttering threats [CC 346(1)].
The youth makes his first appearance on these charges in Provincial Youth Court on April 23, 2019, at 9:30 a.m.
