The Regina Police Service is asking the public for any information that could assist in investigations into two serious weapons offences that resulted in injuries to two people.
In the first case, police were dispatched, at approximately 2:50 a.m. on January 20, 2019, to an apartment residence in the 1000 block Retallack Street for a report of a 16 year-old male youth who’d sustained a number of injuries caused by an unknown bladed weapon. Preliminary investigation indicated the victim had been walking nearby on 5th Avenue, when he was assaulted by a group of unknown persons. It’s not clear how many weapons were involved, nor was there much information to describe the assailants. The victim made his way back to the 1000 block Retallack Street to report what had happened. He was taken to hospital by EMS for treatment of his injuries.
Less than an hour later, at approximately 3:20 a.m. on January 20th, police were dispatched to hospital for a report of a male youth who had sustained serious lacerations from a bladed weapon. In an account very similar to that of the victim on Retallack Street, the 17 year-old victim said he was walking with friends, in the area of 5th Avenue and Montague Street, when he was attacked by a group of suspects. The victim was interviewed by police at hospital, where he was also receiving treatment for his injuries. Unfortunately, there are no details to describe the suspects except that they were dressed in black.
It’s believed these events likely involve the same suspects. Police will continue to investigate these incidents and are requesting that anyone with information contact the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500. Witnesses may also leave information anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
