The Regina Police Service is advising Regina residents to take note of any suspicious activity in their neighbourhoods, in the wake of a series of incidents between October 22nd and 23rd.
During this period, there were ten Break and Enters and 12 Thefts From Auto reported to police: a higher-than-usual total. Seven of the Break and Enters were to garages in the Northwest and West zones, more specifically, addresses in the neighbourhoods of Dieppe, Mount Royal, Rosemont, Coronation Park and Prairie View. In three cases, suspect(s) broke a vehicle window in order to get the garage door opener, giving them access to the garages; in another case a garage door was pried open and one incident involved a broken garage window. In a few of the cases, no property was missing, except for vehicle keys and garage door openers, leading to the possibility that the suspects may return at another time. A number of the Thefts From Auto involved thieves breaking a vehicle window to get at other property inside the vehicles.
There is no single crime prevention technique that will guarantee security of your property; however, it is always a good idea to remove all valuables from inside your vehicle. That includes garage door openers, spare keys, purse, wallets and other property. Lock your house, garage, and any gates leading into your yard. Above all, call police if you see or hear any suspicious activity in your neighbourhood. Call 306-777-6500 to report suspicious activity. Call 9-1-1 for a crime in progress or an emergency.
