A 29 year-old Regina male is charged with Attempted Murder after an incident on Sunday, August 26, 2018, in which a male sustained life-threatening injuries. A 27 year-old Regina female appeared in Provincial Court on August 27th, in connection with the same case.
On Sunday August 26th, police were dispatched just after 6:00 a.m. to a residence in the 1500 block of Rae Street for what was initially reported as a break and enter in progress. Several police units responded and officers found a male lying in front of the residence with apparent serious injuries. EMS transported the victim to hospital for treatment. The victim remains in hospital.
Investigation into this incident indicates there was a dispute between a male and female at the Rae Street residence in the early morning hours of August 26th. It’s alleged the female communicated with a friend, asking him to come get her. Two males and one female showed up at the residence, in a grey Acura, which was later confirmed by police to be a stolen vehicle. It’s alleged one of the males from the vehicle was at the rear of the house when a disturbance and a loud noise occurred. Moments later the male resident emerged from the house with serious injuries and collapsed on the sidewalk. The female resident of the house got into the stolen vehicle, with the two males and other female, and all fled the scene. Police patrol units briefly spotted the fleeing vehicle, but did not pursue because of the driving actions of the vehicle operator. The Acura was found nearby a short time later and a male and female were seen running from the car (the other two occupants were not located). An officer gave chase on foot, but the male, who appeared to be carrying a firearm, escaped. The female was taken into custody without incident and identified as the female resident from the Rae Street property. Continued investigation led to the identification of the male suspect, who was located, on August 27th, at a residence in the 400 block of Connaught Street. The situation was assessed to be high-risk and members of the Crisis Negotiator and Special Weapons and Tactics teams were authorized. At the same time, a search warrant was obtained for that residence. The negotiation extended into the morning of August 28, 2018 and was eventually resolved without incident. During the execution of the search warrant, the male suspect was found in the residence and arrested. The search also yielded a sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun, believed to have been used in the attempted murder. A small quantity of drugs was also seized. Further investigation led to numerous charges against the male and female in custody.
