The Regina Police Service, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner, has begun a death investigation into the death of a Regina male on Saturday, August 18, 2018 on Stice Crescent.
At approximately 2:45 a.m. on Saturday, August 18, 2018, police were dispatched to a residence on Stice Crescent for a suicide in progress call. The information received indicated that an adult male was in possession of a firearm. Police arrived and approached the house to investigate further. They saw a male outside of a residence with a firearm and began efforts to talk with him. The male walked away from the officers when a gunshot was heard. The police officers did not have any physical contact with the male, nor did they discharge their firearms. EMS was immediately called to the scene to render emergency medical assistance. The male died at the scene. The Coroner was requested, along with investigators from the Major Crimes Section. The Regina Police Service is investigating this death, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner.
In consideration that this incident may be regarded as an “in custody death”, the Regina Police Service has contacted Saskatchewan Justice to advise them of this incident. A decision will be made by Saskatchewan Justice as to whether or not an independent observer will be assigned to oversee this investigation.
