It’s east versus west this Saturday at Mosaic Stadium as the Montreal Alouettes play against the Saskatchewan Roughriders at 7:00.p.m. Green is the colour and football is the game, but hockey will also be included in the program. The game on June 30th will honour the SJHL’s Humboldt Broncos by including tributes to the Humboldt community, ribbons distributed to attending fans, “Humboldt Strong” decals and ribbons on the helmets of the players, and a flag unveiling during the pre-game ceremony.
In the hours leading up to and following the game, the Regina Police Service would like to remind everyone to be aware of increased traffic in the area. Allow extra time for travel and parking, and watch for pedestrians and trains. If finding parking in heavy traffic causes you stress, consider taking the free Mosaic Stadium Shuttle bus. (link below) The Regina Police Service will have additional officers assigned to manage the high volume of traffic and to enhance safety for all game attendees and residents of the area.
Beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, there will be no vehicle traffic allowed on the 1500, 1600, and 1700 blocks of Elphinstone Street. Access will be limited to Regina Transit buses and local residents only (you may be asked to show that you are a local resident, e.g. home address on identification or correspondence). Fans and motorists will find road closures on:
- 1500 block of Elphinstone Street at Dewdney Avenue;
- Princess Street and 9th Avenue
- Argyle Street and 9th Avenue;
- MacTavish Street and 9th Avenue;
- Elphinstone Street and 9th Avenue;
- Montague Street and 10th Avenue;
- Elphinstone Street and North Railway Street; and
- Saskatchewan Drive and Elphinstone Street.
Police are asking motorists and pedestrians to follow directions, have patience and be courteous to other users of the road.
Other reminders to help everyone enjoy game days include:
- If you do drink alcohol, plan a safe ride home. Don’t drink and drive.
- Consider using FREE public transit or car-pooling to make your travel plans easier. Regina Transit has provided a FREE Mosaic Stadium Shuttle transit route which can be found at https://www.regina.ca/residents/transit-services/regina-transit/transit-notices-promotions/mosaic-stadium-shuttle/;
- Remove all valuables from your vehicle and lock the doors. There will be additional police patrols around the stadium during games to deter theft-from-auto and theft-of-auto, but it’s always better to remove or reduce the opportunity for crime (officers cannot be everywhere at once);
- Respect the neighbourhood. Although Mosaic Stadium has relocated, it is still in a residential neighbourhood, and visitors should always ensure they park vehicles legally, refrain from littering, and respect the property of others;
- Make your game plans before you drive; do not text or look up directions while driving. Same goes for pedestrians; walking while texting/talking can be dangerous in crowds, on train tracks, and on roads.
