A recent Facebook post in a Regina neighbourhood group which has been shared over 4,400 times, has prompted community concern around train and railway safety but it also creates an opportunity to have important conversations with young people about rail safety. The photo in the post depicts a group of children close to, and approaching, a stationary train. Even though members of the School Resource Officer Unit and Community Services (Patrol) have not been able to verify that this photo was taken in Regina, the Regina Police Service would like to use the momentum of this community conversation to remind parents to teach their children about train and railway safety.
Here are some general train and railway safety guidelines which everyone should follow:
- Stay off the tracks;
- Keep off railway property;
- Use designated railway crossings;
- Obey all railway signs and signals;
- Stay alert; and
- Keep your distance.

If anyone has any information as to the identities of the children in the photo, please contact Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500. Our primary goal would be to ensure that the young people in this photo understand the dangers of playing near trains.
