Police are urging members of the public to be mindful of their property, as well as their neighbors’.
There is a recent trend of break-ins to unlocked garages, where expensive items such as bikes, sporting goods, tools and vehicles are stolen. Unlocked garages often lead to further access into homes- where keys, purses, and other valuables have been stolen. Please ensure all doors are locked, and keys are hidden. Ensure your garage man-doors are locked. Do not leave garage door openers in a vehicle parked outside, and always ensure your vehicle doors are locked. Do not leave keys in your vehicle even if it is parked in your garage.
Protect yourself, and those in your neighbourhood. If you see suspicious activity, people or vehicles, call the police to report it. Be aware of people wandering your neighbourhood, (You know your neighbourhood best!). Watch for people wearing backpacks, often riding bikes, checking out your neighbourhood. Always trust your instinct. If behaviour appears suspicious, it probably is. Get to know your neighbours, and let them know when you see or hear of suspicious events.
These break-ins are crimes of opportunity. Please help to eliminate the opportunity.
Anyone who may have information that could assist in the investigation into residential break-ins, or any other crime, is asked to contact the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
