The Regina Police Service has analyzed the statistics of stolen automobiles over the past 3 years. The findings suggest that Honda and Acura models between the years of 1990 and 2005 are consistently within the top five stolen vehicles and are susceptible to theft. With recent seizures of altered keys and additional investigation it has come to our awareness that there is a technique utilized by criminals in the city where altered keys are being used to gain entry into the door locks and functioning of the ignition in these susceptible vehicle.
The Regina Police Service is requesting the assistance of the public to combat this technique by utilizing a steering wheel immobilization device, such as The Club, in all vehicles, and especially the susceptible vehicles identified, to prevent their vehicle from being stolen. Individuals should be removing all keys from the interior of vehicles to prevent keys from being stolen then altered, and ensure your doors are locked on your vehicle at all times, when away from your vehicle momentarily, and even when it is parked inside your garage.
Much like what was relied upon during the early 2000s, when a high incidence of specific vehicle types were being stolen, taking simple steps, such as those mentioned above, to deter crime and safeguard property will help to drive down the rate of auto theft. We thank the public for making these crime prevention strategies part of a daily routine to ensure the safety of our community and the quality of life in our city.
