The Regina Police Service is advising members of the public that there will soon be a nominal fee for processing criminal record checks for volunteers. As of March 19, 2018, criminal record checks, sometimes called police information checks, for volunteers will cost $10.00 (ten dollars). Up to this date, criminal record checks for volunteers have been processed free of charge. This change was approved by City Council as part of the 2018 budget and reflects more accurately the cost of time and resources to process volunteer criminal record checks. In addition, this change is in keeping with the practice of most other agencies across Canada which charge for volunteer record checks.
All volunteers who require a criminal record check are reminded that they must bring in a letter from the organization for which they intend to volunteer. The letter is a requirement in cases where an individual has to be fingerprinted. If an individual plans to volunteer for more than one agency, that person may bring in a letter from each agency and pay only one fee. As an example, the individual may bring in two letters; one from the neighbourhood school and another from a sports team; and have both volunteer record checks done at one time, for one $10.00 fee.
As of March 19, 2018, the fee for volunteer criminal record checks will be $10.00 (ten dollars). The Regina Police Service policy states that record checks are valid for 30 days and can be reprinted at any time within 30 days.
