Two males, age 24 and 25, have been charged following a stolen auto incident in Regina on Sunday, January 21, 2018.
On January 21, 2018, at about 7:42 p.m., police officers, on patrol in the area of Victoria Avenue and Truesdale Drive, observed a black 1999 Pontiac Grand Am that had been earlier reported stolen. A short time later, the vehicle was seen, parked in the 600 block of Wascana Street. A canine team was able to lead investigators to a specific address on that block. Police were permitted entry by a resident and, through investigation, identified two males inside the dwelling who matched the descriptions of the suspect males seen earlier in the stolen vehicle. The males were taken into custody without incident. The vehicle was recovered and searched. A backpack was seized which contained break and enter tools as well as a pellet gun and ammunition of various calibres.
Twenty-four year-old Jerry Joseph MAERTENS, of Regina, and 25 year-old Andrew James DeBRUYCKER, of Edenwold, Saskatchewan, are jointly charged with:
– Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000 (car), [355(b) CC];
– Possession of Break-In Instruments, [351(1) CC]; and
– Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000 (ammunition), [355(b) CC].
In addition, MAERTENS is charged with Breach of Recognizance, [145(3) CC]. And DeBRUYCKER is also charged with Possession of Ammunition contrary to prohibition, [117.01(1) CC].
Both accused made their first court appearances in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, January 22, 2018 (today).
