A 36 year-old Regina male is facing numerous charges after an incident of shoplifting that turned into dangerous driving and injuries to a police officer.
This incident began at a retail store in the 2900 block of Gordon Road just after 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 5, 2017. According to preliminary investigation, a male entered the store, took two jackets on display and ran out of the store without paying. Loss Prevention Officers tried to prevent the male from driving away in a Jeep, but were unsuccessful. The investigation by police led to a residence in the 1300 block of Aberdeen Street. As police arrived at that location, the Jeep was parked at the rear of the property and a male was getting into a black Alero. Police commanded him to stop, but the driver drove forward striking a police officer, then striking a police car and then fleeing the scene. On December 6th, the suspect vehicle was spotted again by police, in the area of 4th Avenue and Pasqua Street. Officers activated lights and sirens to try to stop the car, but the driver evaded them. On Thursday, December 7th, the suspect was spotted again at about 3:25 a.m.. This time he was arrested without incident and subsequently charged with numerous offences. The officer who was struck by the suspect vehicle on December 5th, sustained relatively minor injuries and has returned to duty.
Thirty-six year-old Lyndon Howard Dale SPRAGUE, of Regina is charged with:
– Theft under $5,000, s. 334(b) CC;
– 2 x Breach of Undertaking, s. 145(3) CC;
– Assault a Peace Officer with a Weapon (car) s. 270.01(1)(a) CC; and
– Evade Police, s. 249.1(1) CC
SPRAGUE made his first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 7, 2017.
