Two Regina males are facing numerous charges in connection with a traffic stop, early Sunday morning, which yielded a loaded, sawed-off rifle.
On Sunday, December 3, 2017 at about 2:00 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on a Ford F-150 in the 1300 block of King Street. The truck matched the description of a vehicle involved in an “evade police” incident last week. The male driver and a male passenger exited the vehicle without incident and were detained. Upon identification, the passenger was found to be in breach of a number of conditions. A search of the vehicle found a loaded sawed-off rifle and a quantity of marihuana. Both occupants of the truck were charged in connection with the firearm and drugs..
Thirty-five year old Jason Dieon TANNER and 38 year-old Corey James WASNIK, BOTH OF Regina, are jointly charged with:
– Careless Use of Firearm, s. 86(1) CC;
– Possession of a Weapons Dangerous to Public Peace, s. 88 CC;
– Carrying Concealed Weapon, s. 90 CC;
– Unauthorized Possession of Firearm in Motor Vehicle, s. 94(1) CC;
– Possession of a Loaded, Prohibited Firearm, s. 95(1)(a) CC;
– Possession of a Prohibited Weapons, Knowing it was obtained by Crime, s. 96(1) CC; and
– Possession of a Scheduled Substance, 4(5) CDSA.
WASNIK is also charged with:
– Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, s. 91(1) CC.
TANNER is also charged with:
– Possession of Firearm Contrary to Prohibition, s. 117.01(1) CC;
– Possession of Firearm, Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized, s. 92(1) CC; and
– Breach of Recognizance, s. 145(3) CC.
Both accused make their first court appearances on these charges in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on Monday (today), December 4, 2017.
