A 20 year-old Regina male, has been charged in connection with an incident in which three males, prisoners in cells at Provincial Court, ingested a substance and suffered apparent drug overdoses. Fortunately, the three victims received immediate medical intervention and survived.
The charges stem from an incident on August 22, 2017, when police and EMS were dispatched to the 1800 block of Smith Street (Provincial Court) where it was learned three males were displaying symptoms of an apparent drug overdose. The males were all in cells at the Court House. All three were treated by EMS at the scene and then taken to hospital; all three recovered from the event. Police investigation into this incident led police to arrest a 20 year-old male, who was also present just prior to the medical emergency experienced by the three victims. It’s alleged the suspect male made a hand-to-hand exchange of a substance with two of the prisoners. Shortly after that, three males (other than the suspect) showed signs of critical illness, prompting the calls to EMS and police. The suspect was arrested on October 3, 2017, and charged.
