A 29 year-old Yorkton male is facing charges in connection with an incident yesterday. On Monday, September 4, 2017 at approximately 4:17 a.m., a vehicle matching the description of a recently stolen vehicle was briefly observed driving westbound on 3rd Avenue and Cameron Street. Police conducted an area search for the vehicle, locating it parked southbound in an alley on the 900 block of Robinson Street. Police approached from the south end of the alley, and finding the vehicle still occupied, activated emergency lights and siren. The suspect vehicle drove toward the police vehicle, passing on the driver’s side and striking the police vehicle as it exited the alley. In the next few hours, police spotted the vehicle a few times, but officers were not in a position to safely stop the vehicle or apprehend the driver.
In what appeared, at first, to be an unrelated call: at 8:22 a.m., police were dispatched to the 2700 block of Kliman Bay for the report of suspicious vehicle. Responding officers located an abandoned vehicle matching the description of the above-mentioned stolen vehicle. At the same time, police received a report of a suspicious person in the area, going in and out of yards in the neighborhood, last spotted on Mahoney Crescent. Police attended to the location and apprehended the suspect on a bicycle. A search of the male’s belongings revealed items of stolen property and break-in instruments.
Investigation into these matters is ongoing.
At this time, twenty-nine year-old Bryant Thayne STARR (DOB: 1988/05/11), of Yorkton, is charged with:
- Possession of Break-In Instruments [CC 351(1)]; and
- 3 X Possession of property obtained by crime [CC 355(B)].
STARR made his first appearance on the charges in Provincial Court this morning at 9:30 a.m.
