This morning, Tuesday, July 18, 2017, a Regina Police Service member discharged a CEW, commonly known as a Taser, in an arrest. This advisory is in keeping with the Regina Police Service’s commitment to notify the public each time a CEW is discharged against a person.
On Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at approximately 9:19 am police were dispatched to the 2100 block East Turvey Road for the report of a domestic assault. It is alleged that a twenty-five year-old male assaulted and forcibly confined a female. Police located the male on the nearby Ring Road, holding a knife, and threatening self-harm. A CEW was deployed on the male in the course of his arrest.
Twenty-five year-old Kelly Michael BAHT (DOB: 05-05-1992), is charged with:
- Assault with weapon [267(A) CC)];
- Kidnapping [279(1)(A) CC];
- Threatening [264.1(1)(a) CC]; and
- Possession of a dangerous weapon [88(1) CC].
The use of the CEW has been documented as per policy and will be reviewed by a Use of Force Committee – a committee within the Service. All uses of force are also reported to the Saskatchewan Police Commission – an oversight body independent of the Regina Police Service.
