Two Regina males face a total of 23 charges as the result of investigation into a number of recent property crimes. The two were arrested by police on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, as they tried to sell stolen items from a stolen vehicle.
At approximately 10:20 a.m., on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, two plainclothes members of the Regina Police Service went to a business in the 2300 block of 2nd Avenue for a report of suspicious activity in the parking lot. It appeared there was a person trying to sell items from a car. The vehicle in question had been reported stolen. The officers went to the location and, after a brief foot chase, arrested two males for various property offences including a Break and Enter, Forgery, and Possession of Stolen Property. The suspects were interviewed on a number of recent property crime files. Items recovered included a vehicle, stereo equipment, DVD players, a toolbox, several cheques belonging to someone other than the suspects, drug paraphernalia, and stolen license plates.
Twenty-one year-old Calvin Roy SPARVIER, DOB: 1995-10-17 and 30 year-old Chad Arthur HAGEN, DOB: 1986-09-20, both of Regina, are jointly charged with the following:
Possession of Stolen Auto over $5,000, s. 355(a) CC;
3 x Possession of Stolen Property under $5,000, (License plates, stereo equipment, tools) s. 355(b) CC;
Break and Enter and Commit Theft, s. 348(1)(b) CC; and
2 x Theft under $5,000, s. 334(b).
In addition, SPARVIER is charged with:
Possession Stolen Property (cheques), s. 355(b) CC;
2 x Forgery, s. 366(1) CC;
2 x Possession of Forged Document, s. 368(1)(d) CC;
2 x Obstruct Peace Officer/Resist Arrest, s. 129(a) CC;
2 x Breach of Recognizance, s. 145(3) CC;
2 x Possession of Stolen Property (April 25th offence), s. 355(b) CC;
Fraud under $5,000, s. 380(1)(b) CC;Theft of Motor Vehicle, s. 333.1(1) CC; and
Uttering Threats (April 27th offence), s. 261.1(1) CC.
In addition to the joint charges, Chad HAGEN is also charged with two charges of Breach of Undertaking, s. 145(3) CC.
Both accused made their first court appearances on these charges in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 3, 2017.
