At approximately 12:00 am on March 16, 2017 police were dispatched to the intersection of Albert Street and Avonhurst Drive for a report of an attempted Armed Robbery.
Two young males had approached a parked taxi cab to confront the driver. The two young males demanded money and one of the males pointed a firearm at the driver. The driver was able to drive away unharmed.
Police attended the location and searched the area to locate a male matching the description of one of the suspects. This male was taken into custody without incident. Investigation revealed this male’s involvement and the seizure of a firearm.
Another attempted robbery was reported to police that had occurred approx. 45 minutes prior to this incident. Three male youths had approached a female and demanded her money and cell phone. One of the youths produced a firearm and another youth produced a knife. The female was able to leave without incident. Investigation linked the two attempted robberies.
A fifteen year old male youth who cannot be identified by name, in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with Robbery with Violence (343(A)CC) X 2, Carrying a Concealed Weapon (90CC), Pointing a Firearm (87CC), Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose (88CC) X 2, Disguise with Intent (351(2)CC) .
The male youth will be held in custody and will make his first appearance in court on Thursday March 16, 2017 at 2:00 pm.
