The Regina Police Service is advising the public of the discharge of a CEW, commonly known as a taser, on Sunday January 8, 2017, in the arrest of a 30 year-old Regina male, who was threatening violence with a weapon. This advisory is in keeping with the Regina Police Service’s commitment to notify the public each time a CEW is discharged against a person.
At approximately 8:32 p.m. on Sunday January 8, 2017, police were dispatched to the 3200 Block of Rochdale Blvd. for a report of a threat that a male was going to use violence with a weapon. Through investigation, officers located the man on the 900 block of Downey Cres. and attempted to negotiate with the man. Upon learning the police were present the male attempted to escape and was non-compliant with officers by attempting to flee in a vehicle. Before the he was able to drive away, the CEW was deployed, the male was challenged by police, and he was taken safely into custody. The male was not injured and was transported to the hospital for a Mental Health assessment. He did not face any criminal charges as a result of the incident.
