Two males youths, ages 15 and 17, have been charged in connection with a robbery, last night, at a convenience store.
At approximately 11:15 p.m. on Monday, November 28, 2016, police were dispatched to a business in the 2900 block of Dewdney Avenue for a report of a robbery in progress. Staff members reported that two males, armed with a bladed weapon and a gun, entered the business. It’s alleged one of the suspects pointed what appeared to a handgun at an employee and demanded cash and merchandise. The two suspects fled the store. The employees were not physically harmed in this incident. Police units responded and conducted a search of the area. Patrol and a canine team were successful in apprehending two male suspects in the 800 block of Angus Street and 900 block Rae Street.
The male youths cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The 15 year-old accused is charged with:
– Armed Robbery, s. 343 CC;
– Disguise with Intent to Commit Indictable Offence, s. 351(2) CC;
– Obstruct Peace Officer (giving false name), s. 129(a) CC;
– 2 x Breach of Undertaking, s. 145(3) CC; and
– 3 x Fail to Comply with Conditions, s. 137 YCJA.
The 17 year-old accused is charged with:
– Armed Robbery, s. 343 CC;
– Disguise with Intent to Commit Indictable Offence, s. 351(2) CC; and
– Possession of Stolen Property over $5,000, s. 355(a) CC (in connection with an incident from October 29, 2016).
The two accused will make their first appearance on these charges in Youth Court at 2:00 p.m. today (Tuesday, November 29, 2016).
