The “Secure-the-Building”* protocol, enacted at a Regina high school today, has ended.
The school, F. W. Johnson at 400 Fines Drive, enacted a “Secure-the-Building” mode at about 10:15 a.m. today, October 27, 2016, as the result of a spoken comment that was interpreted as a potential threat. Although the comment was rather vague, it was taken seriously by school administration and police and is being investigated thoroughly.
Police identified and located the individual alleged to have made the threatening comment. At approximately 2:30 p.m., the “Secure-the-Building” protocol was ended. As a reassurance, police officers will remain at the school until everyone has dismissed for the day. The investigation into this matter will continue. Anyone who has information to add to the investigation is asked to contact the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
The Regina Police Service thanks the students, staff and school families for their patience and cooperation in this matter.
* “Secure the Building”: Is a situation where it is believed a threat is currently outside the building resulting in the decision to secure the school whereby all outside doors will be locked to secure the building. Each exterior door is to be monitored by designated school staff until Secure the Building mode has been lifted. Entry and exit of the building will be at the front doors only and are to be monitored by police and school administration. Regular interior school activities continue in a controlled manner.
