Two Regina males have been charged in connection with an incident on Monday, September 12, 2016, that resulted in three local elementary schools enacting their “Secure the Building”* protocols.
More details have emerged since the incident occurred. At about 2:36 p.m. on Monday, September 12, 2016, police were called to a home in the 300 block of Rose Street. Two adult females entered the home of a family member and encountered three males, two of whom were allegedly armed with a machete and a firearm. The males fled as police arrived. Officers were able to apprehend one male nearby. The other was identified and arrested without incident at about 6:20 a.m. on Tuesday, September 13, 2016.
Twenty-four year-old Nicholas Randall DINARDO, DOB: 1992-02-03, of Regina, is charged with two charges of Assault with a Weapon (firearm), s. 267(a) CC; and Breach of Recognizance, s. 145(3) CC. Nicholas DINARDO made his first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 13, 2016.
Twenty-two year-old David Terrance DINARDO, DOB: 1994-07-06, of Regina, is charged with two charges of Assault with a Weapon (machete), s. 267(a) CC; and Carrying a Concealed Weapon (knife), s. 90 CC. David DINARDO was released on an Officer Undertaking to appear in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m., on Wednesday, October 26, 2016.
*“Secure the Building”: Is a situation where it is believed a threat is currently outside the building resulting in the decision to secure the school whereby all outside doors will be locked to secure the building. Each exterior door is to be monitored by designated school staff until Secure the Building mode has been lifted. Entry and exit of the building will be at the front doors only and are to be monitored by police and school administration.
