The Regina Police Service is continuing its investigation into a shooting incident early Thursday morning that sent a 12 year-old boy to hospital. Fortunately, the victim’s injuries were assessed as non-life-threatening and he has been released from hospital. Police are encouraging anyone with information that could assist in the investigation, to contact the Regina Police Service or Crime Stoppers.
Police were dispatched at 3:18 a.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2016, to the 1200 block of Garnet Street for a report of gun shots and then yelling in the area. When police arrived, they located a 12 year-old male, who had sustained gunshot injuries. The victim was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries described as non-life-threatening. At the same time, other police units responding to the area received information that three males were fleeing the area: one on bicycle and two on foot. Police apprehended two young males; however, they have since been released. Police believe they were present during the incident, but continue to investigate to determine their involvement, if any. One of the males, a 14 year-old, was found to be in breach of court-ordered conditions. He was charged in connection with the breaches and for giving a false name to police. He was released on a JP Undertaking, with a court date of September 6, 2016. At this stage, there have been no charges laid in connection with the shooting. Police continue to investigate this matter.
