The Regina Sexual Assault Centre presented the first Annual Ulmer-Hildebrand Award this morning (March 8, 2016) to Regina Police Service member, Inspector Evan Bray. This Award will be presented each year to a person or persons who has/have made an important contribution eradicating sexual violence and abuse. The Award is named in honour of the two women who established the Regina Sexual Assault Centre in 1975, Abby Ulmer and Denise Hildebrand.
In March of 2015, Inspector Bray approached the Regina Sexual Assault Centre with the idea of bringing the “Be More Than A Bystander” program to the City of Regina. This program has been reaching out to youth in British Columbia, teaching young males the importance of treating women with respect, as well as teaching all youth to not accept bullying of women (or anyone else) and to become an active bystander. Since that time, “Be More Than A Bystander – Saskatchewan” has grown to include several community and government partners. It continues to expand and has taken on a province-wide dimension.
The program will roll out in late April.
