One Regina school, Rosemont Community School, was in Secure-the-Building mode for approximately fifteen minutes this afternoon while police investigated an incident nearby.
On Friday, February 5, 2016, police received a report that a domestic assault took place on the 5600 block of 5th Avenue and that there were firearms inside the residence. Since the incident occurred near a school, the building enacted their Secure-the-Building protocol. An adult male suspect was arrested at the location without incident, and the firearms were located. It should be noted that the firearms were all properly secured. The Secure-the-Building protocol was lifted shortly after. The investigation into the alleged domestic assault is on-going and further details will be released at a later time.
As the name suggests, “Secure-the-Building” is a situation whereby all outside doors are locked to secure the building. Each exterior door is to be monitored by designated school staff until Secure-the-Building mode has been lifted. Entry and exit of the building will be at the front doors only and are monitored by police and school administration. Regular interior school activities continue in a controlled manner.
