Regina Police Service members, along with EMS, Regina Fire and Protective Services and SaskPower attended a single-vehicle collision this afternoon (January 20, 2016) at Ross Avenue and McDonald Street. The caller indicated a van had struck a power pole.
Police were dispatched at approximately 12:17 p.m. on Wednesday, January 20, 2016, to assist on this collision. Preliminary investigation indicates the van was proceeding west-bound on Ross Avenue when it the driver lost control and the vehicle struck a power pole. It appeared the power pole broke with the impact of the vehicle and power lines were unsupported. The adult male driver of the vehicle appeared unhurt but he remained in his vehicle until it was determined he could safely exit the van. The vehicle was towed from the scene and SaskPower employees continued their work to repair the damage. The roadway was closed for much of the afternoon, but has been re-opened again to traffic.
Police believe road conditions were the main contributing factor in this collision. Charges are not anticipated at this time. Given the current milder weather, the Regina Police Service is reminding motorists to use caution when road conditions are less than ideal.
