Two Regina High Schools, Balfour Collegiate and Miller Comprehensive, are currently in Secure-the-Building mode while police investigate a possible threat received online by a student.
This investigation began on Monday morning, January 11, 2016, when police received information that a student at Balfour High School had received a possible threat through social media. Investigators have been assigned and are working to determine the identity of the sender. There are School Resource Officers present at each school and the buildings have enacted their Secure-the-Building processes. (Miller is in Secure-the-building mode only because of its proximity to Balfour.) As the name suggests, this is a situation whereby all outside doors are locked to secure the building. Each exterior door is to be monitored by designated school staff until Secure-the-Building mode has been lifted. Entry and exit of the building will be at the front doors only and are monitored by police and school administration. Regular interior school activities continue in a controlled manner.
This investigation does not, at this time, involve any other schools. Regina Police patrol members are also aware of the situation and are conducting extra patrols in the area of both schools. As with any investigation, anyone who has information is asked to contact the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
