The Regina Police Service has been conducting neighbourhood inquiries in the area surrounding the 4500 block of Albert Street starting last night and throughout the day today.
Officers came across information while performing the neighbourhood inquiries in the area today, pertaining to firearms. Officers recovered a cache of firearms located in an easement. The firearms are now secured in police custody. The Regina Police cannot confirm that the firearms are related to the recent firearm discharges on November 12 and November 15, 2015; however they are looking into this possibility as they were found in close proximity to the incidents over the weekend.
As a result of the discovery of weapons, Campbell Collegiate enacted a “Secure the Building” protocol for approximately one hour this afternoon while officers searched the area, and was lifted shortly before school ended.
Anyone with information that could assist in this investigation is asked to contact the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
“Secure the Building” is defined as: a situation where it is believed a threat is currently outside the building resulting in the decision to secure the school whereby all outside doors will be locked to secure the building. Each exterior door is to be monitored by designated school staff until Secure the Building mode has been lifted. Entry and exit of the building will be at the front doors only and are to be monitored by police and school administration. Regular interior school activities continue in a controlled manner.
