On October 29, 2015, at approximately 10:08 p.m. police located a parked stolen vehicle on the 1300 block of Robinson Street. As police approached and announced their presence to the occupants of the vehicle, the vehicle was put into reverse, colliding with an unmarked police vehicle. The vehicle then drove forward in the direction of a police officer who was on foot. The police officer’s firearm was discharged in the direction of the vehicle. No injuries occurred as a result of the firearm discharge and the police officer was not struck by the vehicle.
The suspect vehicle fled the scene and was pursued outside of the city near Tuxford, Saskatchewan where two occupants, a twenty-one year-old male and a twenty-eight year old female, were arrested. The matter is still under investigation.
The discharge of the officer’s firearm, as well as the pursuit of the vehicle, will be subject of two review boards by the Regina Police Service: a Use of Force Review and Pursuit Review. In addition, all uses of force are also reported to the Saskatchewan Police Commission and are subject to independent scrutiny.
