The Regina Police Service advises that Regina Schools have lifted their “Secure the Building” protocols which were in place earlier today.
This occurred after a call was received by the Regina Police Service indicating a non-specific threat involving schools. The call came in at 11:41 a.m. today (Wednesday, September 16, 2015) to the Regina Police Service Communication Centre. The call did not indicate a specific threat, nor named a particular school, so, as a precaution, all school divisions were advised and the school division enacted a “Secure the Building” protocol at all Regina schools for the safety of students and staff.
“Secure the Building” is defined as: a situation where it is believed a threat is currently outside the building resulting in the decision to secure the school whereby all outside doors will be locked to secure the building. Each exterior door is to be monitored by designated school staff until Secure the Building mode has been lifted. Entry and exit of the building will be at the front doors only and are to be monitored by police and school administration. Regular interior school activities continue in a controlled manner.
The call itself is being investigated by Community Services Division in order to identify the caller. Anyone with information that could assist in this investigation is asked to contact the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
