The Regina Police Service, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner can now confirm that the death of a 34 year-old male in the 1600 block of Ottawa Street, is now a homicide investigation. A thirty year-old male has been charged in connection with this case. This is the sixth homicide in Regina in 2015.
On Saturday August 22, 2015 at approximately 12:25 p.m., police were dispatched to the 1600 block of Ottawa Street in Regina for a report of a deceased male. Patrol members contained the scene and requested the Coroner, as well as Major Crimes and Forensic Identification investigators. As the result of investigation the death is deemed a homicide. Ongoing investigation led to the arrest later that day on August 22, 2015, of a 30 year-old male, who has been charged in connection with the homicide.
The victim is 34 year-old Jonathon Michael EWENIN, DOB: 1981-06-27, of Regina. The victim’s family has been notified of his death as well as this development in the case.
Thirty year-old Rockwell Robert EWENIN (cousin), DOB: 1984-12-11, of Regina is charged with Second Degree Murder, contrary to section 235(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada. EWENIN will make his first court appearance on the charge in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m., Monday August 24, 2015.
