The Regina Police Service is asking for the public’s co-operation in securing property now that summer has arrived. The warm weather prompts most people to spend more time outdoors and that can include criminals looking for easy targets. Summer traditionally bring an increase in property crimes like Break and Enters, Thefts from and of Autos and Mischiefs.
Over the weekend, Regina Police Service had a large number of calls including:
- 21 Thefts from Auto (10 were due to doors/property being unsecured)
- 19 Mischief (6 graffiti and 13 vehicles)
- 9 Thefts of Auto (4 involved keys being left in the vehicle)
- 20 B&Es (10 residential, 10 garages. Most garages were left unlocked or had the lock pried off)
Take the time to prevent this from happening to you. When you are not home, lock your house and garage. When you are at home, lock your doors behind you. When you are not driving, lock your vehicles, and remove valuables from inside your vehicle; this includes remote garage door-openers and spare keys to the house or other vehicles. If you are able to, park your vehicle in your garage, driveway, or in a well-lit area.
Police are asking Regina residents to be observant and report any suspicious activity or noises to police by calling 777-6500. Anyone who sees a crime in progress should call 9-1-1. Anyone, who has information pertaining to a garage break and enter or theft from auto incident, should call 777-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. The Regina Police Service thanks the media and the public for their co-operation and assistance.
