The Regina Police Service is asking for the public’s co-operation in securing property now that summer has arrived. The warm weather prompts most people to spend more time outdoors and that can include criminals looking for easy targets. Spring and summer traditionally bring an increase in property crimes like Break and Enters, Thefts from Auto and Mischiefs.
From January 1st, 2015 to June 23rd, 2015, there have been 187 garageBreak and Enters reported in Regina. Most cases happen due to an unlocked side door or overhead door. Quite often, simply locking these doors helps to keep intruders out. During the summer months, we see an increase in the number of garage door remotes stolen from vehicles, in order to break into the garage at a later time.
Take the time to prevent this from happening to you. Everyone who owns a garage should make sure the building is locked after using any of the doors. Check your vehicles to make sure they are also locked, and remove valuables from inside your vehicle; this includes remote garage door-openers and spare keys to the house or other vehicles.
Police are asking Regina residents to be observant and report any suspicious activity to police by calling 777-6500. Anyone who sees a crime in progress should call 9-1-1. Anyone, who has information pertaining to a garage break and enter or theft from auto incident, should call 777-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. The Regina Police Service thanks the media and the public for their co-operation and assistance.
