Missing Persons Week from Regina Police Service on Vimeo.
May 3rd to 9th is Missing Persons’ Week in Saskatchewan. The theme of this third annual Missing Persons’ Week is “A Community’s Response to Missing Persons”, intended to educate people on the process of reporting a missing person and helpful resources and services in the community. The Regina Police Service is a partner in the Provincial Partnership Committee on Missing Persons.
At the start of the week, the public was invited to follow the fictional case of #ImaMissing on twitter and through video to learn more about the resources and supports in the community for families of missing persons. The Day One video about #ImaMissing, demonstrated the process of reporting a missing person, dispelling common myths such as the mistaken belief that a person has to be missing for 24 hours before a police report can be made. In today’s video, we see three possible outcomes to missing persons’ cases: person found, person deceased and ambiguous loss.
The Provincial Partnership Committee on Missing Persons (PPCMP), which includes representatives from government, police, First Nations, Métis, and community-based organizations, leads collaborative work to address issues related to prevention, intervention and support in cases involving missing persons.
The Regina Police Service encourages members of the public to learn more about how to assist families of missing persons at www.justice.gov.sk.ca/MissingPersons. It is never too late to give information in a missing person’s investigation by calling your nearest police service or RCMP detachment or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
