May is Impaired Driving Awareness Month in Regina. While the Regina Police Service works year-round to apprehend impaired drivers, the May Traffic Focus of the Month will increase attention to this problem as improving weather brings out more public activity.
“Warm weather causes a huge increase in both vehicle and pedestrian activity on our roadways.” says Regina Police Service Inspector Evan Bray. “As part of our commitment to community safety, the Regina Police Service will be focusing on removing impaired drivers from our roadways.”
The Regina Police Service will be executing spot checks and random vehicle stops in an effort to remove impaired drivers and to encourage anyone who consumes alcohol to plan a safe ride home. Take care in planning around events where alcohol may be consumed. Whether you choose a designated driver, taxi or public transportation, the message remains: if you plan to drink, don’t drive. Keeping impaired drivers off the road is a priority for the Regina Police Service and ultimately makes our roadways safer for all Regina residents and visitors.
If you see a driver who you suspect is impaired, remember to pull over and call 911 to report them through the Report Impaired Drivers (RID) program.
