A 27 year-old male is facing drug-related charges after police discovered a marihuana grow operation at a house in the 2200 block of Broder Street last night (Thursday).
On April 23, 2015, just before 8:00 p.m., police were dispatched to a house in the 2200 block of Broder Street for a report of a possible domestic assault. When police arrived, they entered through an open front door, announcing their presence; they heard shouting and believed an assault was taking place. Instead, police found a 27 year-old male, who was in a very agitated state, with blood on his body, partially clothed and holding a cell phone. The officers also observed a “butterfly” knife, which is a prohibited weapon, as well as another knife in plain view. Police took the male into custody and conducted a search to ensure that there was no one else in the house. There was no one else present, but the initial search found marihuana, drug paraphernalia, a locked room and evidence of drug production. A CDSA search warrant was obtained and the subsequent warrant search uncovered a marihuana grow operation with 46 plants. The male suspect had a self-inflicted injury that required medical attention; he was transported to hospital and then back to police headquarters where he was subsequently charged.
Twenty-seven year-old Wesley Thomas HICKE , DOB: 1987-10-11, of Regina, is charged with Unlawfully Produce a Scheduled (controlled) Substance [7(1) CDSA]; Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking [5(2) CDSA]; and Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon [92(2) CC]. HICKE made his first court appearance on these charges at 2:00 p.m. today, April 24, 2015, in Provincial Court.
