The Regina Police Service is advising the public of a dangerous synthetic drug possibly being sold in the City of Regina. Since the beginning of 2015, both Saskatoon Police Service and Moose Jaw Police Service have issued similar advisories in their respective communities.
Regina Police have seized a quantity of Oxycontin 80 pills and are now trying to determine if they are counterfeit. Oxycontin 80 pills are not readily available, leading Regina Police investigators to believe the Oxycontin 80 pills on the street are counterfeit. The pills are described as being round, convex-shaped and blue/green in colour, with “80” stamped on one side and “CDN” on the other.
Instead of Oxycontin, the pills may contain other unknown, potentially deadly, ingredients.
Police want to warn people that any drug taken, which has not been prescribed by a doctor and dispensed by a pharmacist, poses a risk of serious injury or death. The Office of the Chief Coroner confirms four deaths in the province linked to fake Oxycontin and is currently investigating one additional fatality that may also be related.
