Numerous charges (34) have been laid in connection with incidents of Theft from Auto in recent days, prompting the Regina Police Service to remind property owners that they play a key role in reducing crime. In many of these incidents, the vehicles were left unlocked. In other cases, vehicle windows were broken because there were items of value left in plain view inside the vehicles. The Regina Police Service is diligent in its efforts to reduce the number of thefts from auto, using tactical analysis, partnerships and thorough investigations and enforcement, but these efforts are not enough without the co-operation of the public. Property owners are reminded to lock vehicles, remove items of value from vehicles and report any suspicious activity.
In one recent case, a 25 year-old Regina male was charged with 21 offences in connection with seven incidents involving thefts from motor vehicles in the area of the 900 and 1000 blocks of Angus Street. On Thursday, April 2, 2015, a male suspect was observed breaking into a parked taxicab in the 900 block of Angus Street. The male was detained by police and arrested. He was found to have property from seven different vehicles, each with windows broken out using a tire iron. Further investigation led to charges against this individual.
Twenty-five year-old Vernon James WHITEHAWK, DOB: 1989-06-10, of Regina, is charged with seven charges of Mischief under $5,000 (breaking car windows) [430(4) CC]; seven charges of Theft under $5,000 [334(b) CC]; and seven charges of Possession of Stolen Property under $5,000 [355(b) CC]. WHITEHAWK made his first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court on April 2, 2015.
Another investigation, last night, has resulted in numerous charges against three males, ages 25, 23 and 19. At approximately 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2015, police were dispatched to a report of Theft from Auto in the northwest part of the city. The caller reported seeing suspects checking the door handles of parked vehicles, looking for unlocked cars. Investigation led to police apprehending three adult males, who were charged upon further investigation.
Twenty-five year-old Brazley Cody BUFFALOCALF, DOB: 198910-25, of Regina is charged with Theft under $5,000 [334(b) CC]; two charges of Possession of Stolen Property under $5,000 [355(b) CC] and Breach of Probation [733.1(1) CC]. Twenty-three year-old Andy Chaz Lee FLUTER, DOB: 1992-03-24, of Regina, is charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon (bear mace) [90 CC]; two charges of Theft under $5,000 [334(b) CC]; and three charges of Possession of Stolen Property under $5,000 [355(b) CC]. Nineteen year-old Anthony Trey SEON, DOB: 1995-12-28, of Regina, is charged with Breach of Undertaking [145(3) CC] and two charges of Possession of Stolen Property under $5,000 [355(b) CC]. FLUTER made his first court appearance on his charges in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. today, Wednesday, April 8, 2015. BUFFALOCALF and SEON were released on Undertakings to appear in Provincial Court on May 21, 2015.
