Two people: a 21 year-old male and a 32 year-old year old female, are facing numerous charges in connection with a police investigation, yesterday (Tuesday, March 24th) that started with a weapons offence in the 1000 block of Athol Street and ended with a callout of Crisis Negotiators and SWAT members in the 400 block of Froom Crescent. The arrests were made without injury to the suspects, members of the public or police.
This event began at approximately 12:38 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2015, when police received a call about two people getting into a Black Honda in the North Central neighbourhood, carrying a firearm. Just minutes later, police were dispatched to the 1000 block of Athol Street a call of a Break, Enter and Robbery, involving two suspects with firearms. A male and female suspect entered a house, wearing masks to conceal their faces and carrying what were described as a handgun and a shotgun. The suspects robbed the occupant of the house of prescription drugs and money before fleeing in a black Honda Civic. Initial investigation led police to the 3700 block of Regency Crescent, but at the sight of an officer’s marked car, the suspects evaded and struck a parked vehicle at that location. Further investigation led police to the 400 block of Froom Crescent where they confirmed the suspect vehicle parked at one of the houses there. A secure perimeter was established and patrol members made several attempts to contact the occupants of the house. At the same time, schools in the area were notified as a precaution and other residents of the area were advised to shelter in place until further notice. When the attempts to contact the suspects were unsuccessful, Crisis Negotiators and SWAT were requested and authorized (4:55 p.m.). At approximately 6:45 p.m., three people exited the house voluntarily and were taken safely into police custody. One person was released without charges; two others were charged with numerous offences.
